I really enjoyed today’s note! It resonated with me, especially the internal struggle of how to continue working until 70, if desired. I want to decide!
I was particularly struck by the point about being just a spreadsheet entry away from redundancy in a corporation. So true! It highlights the impersonal nature of corporate jobs. This sparks so many questions…
And this is a huge thing, as I am only vaguely familiar with the life of a business person in Europe in their 50s. I remember you and I met at the event of the GEF celebrating their 20th anniversary. I met a woman at a cocktail party there, she was in her 60s with a fascinating life story: she was the graduate of the first mixed promotion of HEC, huge career in banking and finance (she managed partnerships with the USSR banks and still speaks decent Russian!) now semi-retired i.e. hanging out with her 7 grandchildren and in parallel running projects in Africa that help local population get access to electricity.
I want to still have my place professionally at any age, and I agree with you that I want to be the decision maker and not the circumstances.
